TVA Provides Renewable Energy to Illinois Customers

Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) has started supplying customers with its 300 MW of renewable wind energy obtained from the Streator Cayuga Ridge wind park of Iberdrola Renewables Inc. located in Livingston County, Illinois.

This is one among the seven contracts recently inked by TVA for purchasing around 1,380 MW of renewable wind power from the region of the Midwest. The purchase agreement that TVA has with Iberdrola Renewables can provide sufficient electricity for powering 325,000 homes in the service region of TVA.

Moreover, TVA is likely to receive an additional 115 MW of electricity this fall from the Pioneer Prairie wind farm of Horizon Wind Energy LLC located in Mitchell and Howard counties in Iowa.

The present renewable energy portfolio of TVA includes around 4,800 MW from wind, solar, methane and hydro sources. Moreover, the nuclear plants of TVA generate 6,900 MW of low-or-no-emission electrical energy.
