Green Building Initiative Receives Appreciation from the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute

The Green Building Initiative (GBI) has received appreciation from the GREENGUARD Environmental Institute (GEI) for successfully completing its American National Standard for Commercial Green Building.

Officially called as ANSI/GBI 01-2010: Green Building Assessment Protocol for Commercial Buildings, the standard facilitates building project leaders who seek green building certification to select from a wide range of materials and products that are entitled for sustainable credits. It also provides a list of third-party certification programs to help find these products. The standard has received approval by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).

GEI’s founder Marilyn Black commented that the ANSI standard provides opportunities for designers, specifiers, architects, developers, builders and contractors to find and use third-party certified low-emitting materials and products.

GEI’s public affairs and technical information manager Josh Jacobs stated that the new standard is an essential highlight for the green design and building community. The ANSI Standard was designed using consensus-based guidelines of ANSI that ensure a transparent, inclusive and balanced process.
