Sindh Province Promotes Usage of Clean Solar Energy

The Environment and Alternate Energy Department of Sindh Province in Pakistan has declared its intentions to introduce solar powered stoves, solar pressure cookers and cooking utensils to reduce the consumption of natural gas for household functions such as heating and cooking.

Shaikh Muhammad Afzal, Environment Minister of Sindh, stressed the need for promoting alternative clean energy sources while chairing a meeting conducted to review the use of renewable energy sources to lessen the dependency on conventional energy products in the province. He offered a small brief on the usage of the solar powered products in some of the developed countries and stressed on their usage due to decreased availability of traditional energy sources including natural gas. He requested the officials to take up the clean energy issue with the public to make them aware of the impending problems and to promote the use of clean energy sources. He suggested the use of solar lights to reduce the dependence and load on the grid connected power.

Mir Hussain Ali, Secretary for Environment and Alternate Energy, said that the department is currently working on the modalities to improve the usage of solar energy for water heating, cooking and for other purposes. He unveiled the intention of the government to launch a propaganda campaign to educate the common people on the use of alternative energy sources and the availability of incentives to make them support the use of renewable energy sources.
