The equal partnership would also include all the renewable energy projects such as solar, gas, hydro or electrical infrastructure projects on the United Chiefs and Councils of Mnidoo Mnising (UCCMM) First Nations territory in the future. MMP was formed by the UCCMM and would first develop a 60 MW McLean’s Mountain wind farm project on Manitoulin Island in Lake Huron with Northland. The UCCMM Tribal Chair Chief Shining Turtle, stated that the UCCMM were unswerving in their commitment to the responsible and thoughtful development of the existing natural resources, which would take care of the their families needs and also offer an improved future for their young people. This was a fine example as to how First Nations could work in close association with the Government and the Private Sector for the benefit of the people and at the same time add to Ontario’s renewable energy portfolio.

MMP is based in and around the Manitoulin Island in Canada’s Ontario Province.. The UCCMM created  MMP for developing renewable energy projects on the Island so that the heritage and the rights of the First Nations could be protected, and also the future of the youth of the First Nations could be ensured.

Northlands’s interests in the nine power projects totals up to more than 1050 MW and its assets include natural gas fired facilities that generate clean electricity and steam in an efficient manner and also plants that generate renewable energy from solar, wind and biomass sources.
