Indianapolis International Airport Looks for Installing Solar Farm

Indianapolis International Airport, the biggest airport in Indiana is looking forward to go greener with the building of a solar energy system at large scale. The airport is currently attempting to receive estimates on the project costs from the companies for building the solar power facility.

The Indianapolis International Airport authorities have recently announced their intention to construct a 10 MW solar power producing system to generate enough power to supply 6,000 homes. The authorities are looking for a developing company that can construct the solar farm over 30 acres of land located close to one of its airport runways. The airport has plans to lease the property and trade the produced power to Indianapolis Power and Light utility.

The current move of the Indianapolis International Airport follows the similar moves by other airports such as Colorado, Denver, California and Fresno. The airport is looking forward to utilizing its vast unutilized land for the purpose. The revenue to be generated from the project is yet to be assessed.
