OnTrac has become a SmartWay Partner, an initiative of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to ensure environmental and energy efficiency in the goods movement supply chains within a recognizable framework.
Steve Heron, Director of Fleet Operations, believes joining SmartWay is a way of showing their responsibility and commitment in decreasing carbon footprint. The company aims to identify and optimize various avenues such as technologies, equipment, and strategies, to improve fuel efficiencies and reduce emissions.
Through this partnership, OnTrac will be able to contribute to the overall Partnership's savings of 14.7 mmt of carbon dioxide, 215,000 tons of oxides of nitrogen, 8,000 tons of particulate matter, 1.5 billion gallons of fuel and $3.6 billion in fuel costs. Optimization of operations will enable OnTrac to provide its regional service product at a lesser rate. Laura Peterson, Vice President of Marketing, is happy to be involved in this go green effort by the company. She feels it fulfills the company’s role as a responsible corporate citizen.
SmartWay Transport Partnership has been in service since 2003 and involves Business for Social Responsibility, American Trucking Associations, industry stakeholders, and environmental groups. Together, it has developed SmartWay tools and approaches that are supplied to all the partners to ensure environment-friendly practices to save fuel and reduce emissions. The Partnership boasts of over 3,000 Partners.
