Determination of Fluorine Content in Coal Samples Using Metrohm Combustion IC

Coal includes a percentage of chlorine, fluorine, and sulfur compounds. When the coal is combusted, corrosive acids are released by these compounds, for instance, hydrofluoric acid is formed by fluorine compounds.

Therefore, thermal power plants need to use low-fluorine coal in order to prevent the formation of hydrofluoric acid on a massive scale. This article covers the determination of the fluorine content in a coal sample after hydropyrolysis using ion chromatography.
