The latest film made by the European fusion community, entitled "Energy of the future - Fusion 2100", won the 2009 EuroPAWS MIDAS Prize for New Media. The prize recognises the best European new media production (web, promotional video etc.) involving science and engineering/technology. The award was presented at the "Environment in TV and New Media Awards Evening"
in the Institution of Engineering and Technology in London on 23 November 2009.
About the film
The film is eight minutes in length, and set in a classroom in the year 2100. A teacher explains the basics of fusion and the history of fusion research to the pupils using futuristic teaching resources. The film was created for the general public. It employs easily comprehended explanations and innovative visual solutions designed to make the complex topic of fusion science easy for the viewer to understand.
Production of the film was financed by the European Commission and all of the institutions involved in the European Fusion Research Programme. The project was implemented within the framework of the European Fusion Development Agreement (EFDA) and produced by the Naumann Film Company in 2008. The production was supervised by Max Planck Institute for Plasmaphysics (IPP).
