A 1 megawatt (MW)/2 megawatt-hour (MWh) battery energy system powered by LG Chem batteries has been commissioned for Southern Company and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) at a solar photovoltaic (PV) facility in the Southeastern region of the U.S.
Sulphur Springs Valley Electric Cooperative (SSVEC) and SunPower announced today that SSVEC has signed a 20-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with SunPower to build a 20-megawatt (AC) solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in Cochise County, Ariz. Expected to be operational by the end of 2016, the plant is anticipated to generate enough electricity to serve the needs of approximately 4,500 homes, based on estimates provided by the Solar Energy Industries Association.
Solar energy is abundantly available globally, but unfortunately not constantly and not everywhere. One especially interesting solution for storing this energy is artificial photosynthesis. This is what every leaf can do, namely converting sunlight to chemical energy. That can take place with artificial systems based on semiconductors as well. These use the electrical power that sunlight creates in individual semiconductor components to split water into oxygen and hydrogen.
Atlantic Wind & Solar, Inc. is pleased to announce it has commenced construction on another 320 KW solar PV plant in Ontario, specifically in Burlington, following receipt of the Notice to Proceed from Ontario's IESO (Independent Electricity System Operator).
In partnership with Domino's Farms, DTE Energy today announced the opening of the state's largest solar array to date, a 1.1-megawatt facility at Domino's Farms in Ann Arbor Township.
Ecoplexus Inc., a leading developer of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems, today announced that it has closed financing and commenced construction on five solar PV projects totaling 28 megawatts (MW). The projects have signed long-term PPA contracts with Duke Energy Progress and Dominion North Carolina Power and will achieve commercial operations in late 2015.
Sempra U.S. Gas & Power today announced a 100-megawatt (MW) expansion of its Mesquite Solar complex in Arlington, Ariz., about 60 miles west of Phoenix. When completed in late 2016, the expansion, called Mesquite Solar 2, will produce enough power for 45,000 homes.
With a new 7.5-megawatt (MW) solar energy farm located on the city's former Tequesquite Landfill now operational, Riverside's total solar generation has soared past the 20-MW mark – five years ahead of schedule.
ET Solar Group (ET Solar), an advanced solar module manufacturer, announced at the 2015 Solar Power International (SPI) exhibition the certification and commercial availability of the new ET Cell Optimizer Module (COM). The ET COM modules incorporate next generation power management integrated circuits (ICs) developed by Maxim Integrated Products, Inc. (Maxim), a leading manufacturer of mixed-signal and analog semiconductors.
Ontario-based utility PowerStream has launched a pilot solar storage program with Sunverge Energy, with the goal of dramatically reducing home electric bills and providing customers with additional outage protection. The pilot is a key component of the utility's plan to reduce overall power consumption in its service area by 535,440 MWh by 2020, which is the equivalent of taking more than 62,000 homes off the grid.
