A major offshore wind farm development rights has been awarded to Vattenfall and ScottishPower Renewables in North Sea, off the east coast of England. The zone was assessed by both the companies for a period of 12 months for its potential and following that, the companies were awarded the development rights as part of The Crown Estate’s Round 3 offshore wind farm programme.
The Oklahoma Corporation Commission has issued two orders authorizing OG&E’s purchase of electricity from new wind farms that are at present being developed in northwestern Oklahoma.
An agreement was signed by William Paterson University (WPU), Nautilus Solar Energy, and SunDurance Energy to construct a solar power facility at the university’s campus in Wayne, New Jersey. The solar power project consists of rooftop and parking lot installations with a total capacity of 3.5 MW. When the project is completed, it will be the largest solar facility to be constructed at a university in the United States.
The UK division of Fluor Corporation, Fluor Limited, and SSE have been jointly awarded the exclusive rights to develop Round 3 offshore wind farm zone, which is located off the coast of Scotland, by The Crown Estate.
Nevada Geothermal Power, a developer of geothermal projects, is developing the Pumpernickel geothermal project. The project is located in the Humboldt County, Nevada. The project property covers an area of 10.34 square miles, and it is 100 percent leasehold. The site has access to the local transmission grid through three interconnect points. The project site is estimated to have a geothermal resource capable of producing 20 to 30 megawatts of power.
The Air Breeze wind turbine incorporates composite blades. Its castings are made of aluminum alloy, which has aircraft-quality. This wind generator offered by Discover Power includes an internal regulator, which is based on a microprocessor. The internal regulator comes together with peak power tracking feature.
Composite Technology Corporation provides DeWind wind turbines. The DeWind D8 wind turbine generates maximum power of 2,000 kilowatts at voltage and current of 690 volts and 1675 amperes respectively. The wind turbine consists of a doubly fed generator and an IGBT inverter. The main braking system of the DeWind D8 wind turbine is a central blade pitching unit and is hydraulic, while the emergency braking system is a single blade pitching unit.
Ontario's Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO) announced that wind power generation in Ontario has increased by more than 60% in 2009 when compared to the wind power generated during the year 2008.
The building is a high rise luxury condominium type. For the project, the company had installed a vertical type of ground source loop, to capture the heat from the earth. Middleton Geothermal Services drilled 40 boreholes to conduct the thermal conductivity testing for the Northside Lofts project. Each borehole was drilled to a depth of 500 feet. Due to a suitable location, the Northside Lofts project has benefits of geothermal cooling and heating.
MEG Geothermal develops ground heat exchangers and geothermal energy systems with small foot print and high efficiency. The team at the company is specialized in designing and installing geothermal systems.
