USFloors, a leading sustainable flooring company in the country, has commissioned Georgia state’s largest solar array in the commercial sector in the city of Dalton. The 144.48-kW solar array was installed on their facilities. Piet Dossche, President of USFloors, said that the energy generated from the solar array is more than sufficient to meet the electricity requirements of its green building.
USFloors has taken advantage of various utility and government benefits such as accelerated depreciation, a 35% State Tax Credit and a 30% Federal Grant. The company receives a premium for the generated solar power from North Georgia EMC.
United Renewable Energy, an Alpharetta-based company has installed the solar system. William Silva, President of United Renewable Energy, said that USFloors is a leader in adopting sustainable business practices. He commented that the project is not only very impressive but also the largest solar photovoltaic installation in the commercial sector in the state after the 1996 Olympics.
USFloors adopts many sustainable business practices and the solar installation is one among them. The company is initiating many steps to make the Whitfield County a solar-powered county. Dossche said that the company has shown how being a steward for sustainability benefit businesses in the region through its work along with the Whitfield County Chamber. The solar array installation helped to create a minimum of 15 jobs and by reducing operating costs many more jobs were also preserved.
