Canadian Solar Awarded 3 Solar Power Projects in Pirapora, Brazil

Canadian Solar Inc. (the "Company", or "Canadian Solar"), one of the world's largest solar power companies, today announced that it has won 3 solar photovoltaic (PV) projects totaling 110 megawatts (MWp) in Pirapora, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. Canadian Solar will develop and build the solar power plants.

EDF Renewable Energy Closes Sale of 50% Interest in Spinning Spur 3 Wind Project to BlackRock Infrastructure

EDF Renewable Energy (EDF RE) has closed on the transaction to sell a 50 percent interest in the 194 megawatt (MW) Spinning Spur 3 Wind Project to a fund managed by BlackRock’s Infrastructure Investment Group (“BlackRock Infrastructure”). This transaction is the third of five signed agreements between BlackRock and EDF Renewable Energy to close. The remaining projects, Roosevelt (250 MW) and Milo (49.65 MW) wind projects, will close upon completion of construction and tax-equity financing.

Nanoparticles Stemming from Sea Traffic Pose Risk to Our Health

New data presented by researchers at Lund University and others in the journal Oceanologia show that the air along the coasts is full of hazardous nanoparticles from sea traffic. Almost half of the measured particles stem from sea traffic emissions, while the rest is deemed to be mainly from cars but also biomass combustion, industries and natural particles from the sea.

Warming of Arctic Waters May Impact Sensitive Marine Ecosystems in Polar Regions

The warming of arctic waters in the wake of climate change is likely to produce radical changes in the marine habitats of the High North. This is indicated by data from long-term observations in the Fram Strait, which researchers from the Alfred Wegener Institute (AWI) have now analysed. Their most important finding: even a short-term influx of warm water into the Arctic Ocean would suffice to fundamentally impact the local symbiotic communities, from the water's surface down to the deep seas. As the authors recently reported in the journal "Ecological Indicators", that's precisely what happened between 2005 and 2008.

Canadian Solar Subsidiary Closes Financing with GE for 100MW Astoria Solar Power Project

Canadian Solar Inc. (the "Company", or "Canadian Solar"), one of the world's largest solar power companies, today announced that its wholly owned subsidiary, Recurrent Energy, one of North America's largest solar project developers, closed on a tax equity investment commitment with GE unit GE Energy Financial Services for the 100 megawatt (MWac) Astoria solar power project. Recurrent Energy also closed a debt facility for the Astoria project, currently under construction in California.

EDP Renewables to Construct 100MW Amazon Wind Farm US Central in Ohio

Amazon Web Services, Inc. (AWS), an Amazon.com company, today announced that it has contracted with EDP Renewables to construct and operate a 100 megawatt (MW) wind farm in Paulding County, Ohio, called the Amazon Wind Farm US Central. This new wind farm is expected to start generating approximately 320,000 megawatt hours (MWh) of wind energy annually starting in May 2017, or enough to power more than 29,000 US homes in a year.

Tabuchi Commences Installation of Solar-Plus-Storage Systems in Homes Across Oshawa Power’s Service Territory

Tabuchi Electric, a solar-plus-storage manufacturer, is unveiling the installation of its first solar-plus-storage system as part of a broader program being led by utility partner Oshawa Power and Utilities Corporation in Ontario, Canada. The utility is one of the first in North America to lead the installation of grid-friendly residential solar-plus-storage systems.

Transportation Sector has the Capacity to Nearly Halve its CO2 Emissions

Some argue the transportation sector constitutes a major roadblock on the path to avoiding dangerous climate change. Yet, the sector has the capacity to nearly halve its CO2 emissions by 2050, and may therefore be easier to decarbonize than previously thought. Realizing such a major emissions cut would require further efficiency improvements in fuel consumption and, especially, the promotion of public transport in cities, alongside a large-scale shift to electric cars. These are key findings of the new article published in the journal Science.
