Southern Power Acquires 30MW Pawpaw Solar Facility from Longview Solar

Building on one of the nation's largest renewable energy portfolios, Southern Company subsidiary Southern Power has announced the acquisition of the Pawpaw Solar Facility – a 30-megawatt (MW) project – from Longview Solar LLC. With the addition of the company's fifth solar acquisition in Georgia, Southern Power is developing a total of 385 MW of solar generation in the state.

First Site of Mito Solar Project in Japan Becomes Fully Operational

Etrion Corporation (“Etrion” or the “Company”), a solar independent power producer, today announced that the first site of the Mito solar project in Japan has been connected to the grid and is fully operational. Mito is a 9.3 megawatt (“MW”) utility-scale solar photovoltaic (“PV”) power project including five sites in the Ibaraki Prefecture with staggered connection dates expected through August 2015.

Toshiba Receives Supply Order for Large-Scale Battery Energy Storage System

Toshiba Corporation has received an order to supply a large scale battery energy storage system (BESS) for Tohoku Electric Power Company's "Minami-Soma Substation Project to Verify the Improvement of Supply-demand Balance With Large-capacity Power Storage Systems" [1] . Toshiba will supply a 40MW-40MWh lithium-ion BESS, Japan's largest[2], integrating an array of SCiBTM lithium-ion batteries. Construction of the system began today and the start of operation is scheduled for the end of February 2016.
