Toshiba Tests Operation of Independent Energy Supply System Using Hydrogen and Renewable Energy

Toshiba Corporation today announced the start of demonstration operation of H2One, an independent energy supply system based on renewable energy and use of hydrogen as a fuel for power generation. Kawasaki City and Toshiba have installed the system at the Kawasaki Marien public facility and Higashi-Ogishima-Naka Park in the Kawasaki Port area.

NPPD Plans to Develop First Major Hydrogen Fuel Power Plant in Hallam, Nebraska

Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD), Nebraska’s largest electric utility, plans to replace an existing coal-fired boiler at its Sheldon Station plant in Hallam, Neb. with one that uses clean-burning hydrogen fuel. The hydrogen will be produced by Monolith Materials as a co-product from its production of carbon black using natural gas as a feedstock. The collaborative undertaking is expected to create good paying jobs at the site and enable NPPD to continue to generate and deliver affordable, reliable and sustainable energy to Nebraskans.

Keele University in 2.7 Million Euros Shale Gas Research Project

Berkeley Researchers Design Artificial Photosynthetic System Using Sequestrated Carbon Dioxide

A research team from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) and the University of California (UC) Berkeley has developed a hybrid system of bacteria and semiconducting nanowires, which imitate the natural process of photosynthesis by which plants use solar energy for carbohydrate synthesis from water and carbon dioxide.
