EDP Renewables Inks Wind Turbine Procurement Agreement with Vestas

Wind power company EDP Renewables has inked a wind turbine procurement agreement with wind turbine manufacturer Vestas to supply around 2,100 MW.

The Master Supply Agreement (MSA) comprises orders to supply, commission and install wind turbines having 1,500 MW capacity to be provided to South America, Europe and North America in the years 2011 and 2012. Moreover, there is a possibility of extending an additional 600 MW in the years 2010 and 2011. The contract also includes maintenance and service agreement for two years, which can be extended to a five- or 10-year period, with ensuing Technical Assistance Agreement.

This MSA agreement comes as a positive sign to the whole wind industry. EDP Renewables chose Vestas among other companies as the company perceived Vestas to fit well with the short- and medium-term business goals of EDP Renewables.

Vestas Mediterranean’s President Juan Araluce stated that the company, in 2009, had installed around 2,500 MW capacity of wind energy to EDP Renewables, representing approximately 40% of the overall global wind capacity of EDP Renewables.
