STR Holdings Starts Phase II Work in Malaysia

In order to meet the needs of its growing customers in Asia, STR Holdings, Inc. has started its Phase II expansion work at its solar encapsulant plant located in Johor, Malaysia.

Phase II will result in the doubling in size of the current warehouse and production space of STR Holdings in Malaysia, offering floor space for around 4 GW capacity. Work on Phase II is likely to be completed by Q1 of 2011.

The CEO, Chairman and President of STR Holdings Dennis L. Jilot commented that the Phase II expansion work is a part of the company’s growth strategy named ‘One Plus China’. Customers in this region will be benefited with dependable supply chain, faster lead times and reduced shipping expenses.

Moreover, the Phase I expansion work of the company is likely to be completed by Q2 of 2010. Currently, the Malaysian facility’s capacity is being increased to 2 GW from 1 GW. After completion of the work, STR Solar is likely to have total worldwide production capacity of 6.35 GW.
