During the National Hardware Show, technology company WindTronics introduced its Honeywell Wind Turbine, which generates power even at 2 mph and addresses issues related to vibration, output, size and noise. Moreover, WindTronics announced the awarding of Gold Edison Award for Energy by Discovery Channel in the Edison Best New Product Awards.
Beginning in August 2010, retailer Ace Hardware will provide consumers in the U.S. with the Honeywell Wind Turbine. Moreover, WindTronics has inked distribution agreements with over 300 international and national dealers in addition to Honeywell, satellite distributors, utility companies, electrical contractors, building contractors and Wesco Distribution.
The Honeywell Wind Turbine comes with the Smart Box Energy Management System for regulating and connecting the wind power to the electrical panel of the building. Featuring a 2.2 kW Plate Power, the turbine produces 2,752 kWh annually in a wind speed of Class 4 at 33 ft.
The Blade Tip Power System (BTPS) of the Honeywell Wind Turbine is based on stators and magnets for capturing energy at the edges of the blades. This power is sent to the Smart Box Energy Management System for buffering and storing the energy. The Smart Box Energy Management System includes advanced software algorithms for capturing maximum energy.
The gearless design of the Honeywell Wind Turbine removes mechanical drag and resistance, facilitating it to produce energy in wind speeds ranging from 2–45 mph. The turbine, having a diameter of 6 ft and weighing 170 lbs, can be pole, commercial or rooftop mounted.
