Following the successful application for funding as per the NYSERDA Program Opportunity Notice 1670, Ultralife Corporation has received $3 million in grants from the New York Power Authority (NYPA) and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA). Both NYPA and NYSERDA provided $1.5 million each for supporting the battery project.
This funding follows the recent $2.4 million funding to Ultralife Corporation by NYSERDA for installing a 1 MWh lithium ion energy storage system on the corporate campus of Ultralife Corporation in Newark, New York.
The funding will be used by Ultralife Corporation to demonstrate its novel lithium ion battery energy storage system for supporting a wind turbine demonstration project likely to be installed on the State University of New York’s campus located at Canton (SUNY Canton).
At its Newark, New York plant, Ultralife Corporation will manufacture a 2 MWh lithium ion battery energy storage system. Based on the company’s current modular lithium ion battery system technology, the energy storage system will support the electrical needs of the SUNY Canton and provide power of 500 kW for around four hours.
The findings from the demonstration project will help evaluate the economic benefits and technical capability of sophisticated electric energy storage system batteries when they are integrated along with wind turbine producing systems. The data from the project will help confirm the economic benefits and technical performance of the energy storage system of Ultralife Corporation, especially targeting alternative and renewable energy integration, frequency regulation, peak shaving and peak shifting among other applications of energy storage.
