Skyline Solar Obtains Patent Approval from the USPTO

The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has issued the patent number 7,709,730 to Skyline Solar, a High Gain Solar (HGS) arrays manufacturer for the industrial, government, commercial and utility markets. The patent covers fundamental features of the HGS architecture of Skyline Solar. Skyline Solar is one of the few companies to have received this patent approval as per the Green Technology Pilot Program of the USPTO.

The issuance of the patent by the USPTO underscores the U.S. government’s commitment to focus on green technology innovation. Generally, green technology companies will need to wait numerous years before being given a patent.

The patent application entitled “Dual Trough Concentrating Solar Photovoltaic Module” is one among the other recognitions that the company obtained from the U.S. federal government. In 2008, the Solar Energy Technologies Program of the US Department of Energy selected Skyline Solar for a sub-contract PV Incubator project. The aim of the program was to speed up promising technology into pilot-scale production.

In October 2009, in partnership with metal-stamping contract manufacturer Cosma International, the company commenced pilot manufacturing of its HGS system. With the assistance of Cosma International, Skyline Solar helped retool some U.S. production capacity earlier used by automotive manufacturers.
