Intertek Certifies Wind Turbine Hydraulic Brake System of Hydrep

Intertek, a support services provider for owners, operators and manufacturers in the wind power sector, has provided electrical safety certification to a wind turbine hydraulic brake system of Hydrep, Inc. This certification with the ETL Listed Mark will assist Hydrep in ensuing that their products get recognized by safety inspectors across North America.

The approval of certain wind turbine projects by provincial, local and state inspectors has been delayed due to the lack of a countrywide accepted standard meant for large-scale wind turbines. Manufacturers and owners need to present evidence that their equipment complies with appropriate safety standards. By offering certification for essential mechanical and electrical components including gearbox systems and brakes, Intertek decreases compliance issues for manufacturers.

The Wind products development division’s General Manager of Hydrep Pierre Yves Tremblay stated that the ETL Listing of the company’s wind turbine brake systems assists provide customers with the assurance that the product complies with appropriate product safety standards in Canada and the U.S.

Intertek is an NRTL (Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory) recognized by OSHA in the U.S. as well as a Standards Council of Canada (SCC)-recognized Certification Organization (CO) and Testing Organization (TO). Intertek has evaluated more than 1,500 large-sized wind turbines across North America. The company is accredited to certify and evaluate equipment to a wide range of international, national and local product safety standards.
