Cleantech America’s CalRENEW-1 Begins Operations

Cleantech America, a Meridian Energy Ltd subsidiary, has announced the commencement of commercial operations of the CalRENEW-1 photovoltaic solar project. This project is interconnected to the transmission system of PG&E under the Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS) program of California.

As per the terms of a power purchase agreement, the project will offer 5 MW of solar energy to PG&E. Meridian Energy is a state-owned electricity producer in New Zealand and produces energy completely from renewable resources.

CalRENEW-1 comprises over 50,000 solar panels over an approximate area of 50 acres. The construction and development of this project has led to the creation of numerous solar installer training opportunities and green jobs in the Central Valley. CalRENEW-1 helps California meet its rigorous carbon reduction and renewable energy goals. The project will help avoid emissions of around 6,905 pounds per year of nitrogen oxide, 5,451 pounds per year of sulfur dioxide and 6.3 million pounds per year of carbon dioxide.
