Cedar Valley College and ONTILITY Offer Entry Level Solar Design and Installation Course

During May 17 – 21, 2010, Cedar Valley College and ONTILITY will offer a course Entry Level Solar Design and Installation at Cedar Valley College.

The course is likely to be taught by NABCEP Certified Solar PV Installers Jim Duncan and Brian Cunningham of ONTILITY. Open to all learners, this 40-hour course offers students with information on electrical circuits; solar photovoltaic (PV) modules, cells and system components; PV system estimation, design and code requirements; electricity production from sunlight; the process of working with solar conversion systems; and solar electric applications and products.

The course follows the NABCEP photovoltaic task analysis and learning objectives as well as the standards of the Institute for Sustainable Power Quality (ISPQ). Hands-on training includes site surveys; electrical and mechanical design, construction and safety issues; best-practice construction skills; test and tool equipment use; local inspection and national code issues. The course concentrates on site-specific, real-world knowledge.
