ZeaChem Inks Contract with U.S. DOE

A Cooperative Agreement has been signed by ZeaChem Inc. with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) for receiving grants of $25 million.

The grant, funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), will be given by the Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), Biomass Program. This agreement facilitates ZeaChem to receive phase I of the funding.

The funding will be utilized by ZeaChem for constructing and operating the cellulosic ethanol manufacturing capability which will be incorporated to the main technology of ZeaChem which will generate ethyl acetate, the chemical antecedent to ethanol. In 2011, the company will commence production of cellulosic ethanol at its 250,000 gallon-per-year biorefinery which is likely to be situated in Boardman, Oregon.
