Azure Power Partners with SunEdison

Utility-scale, privately operated solar power plant developer Azure Power has partnered with solar power services provider and MEMC Electronic Materials subsidiary SunEdison.

A 15-MW photovoltaic solar power plant will be jointly developed and constructed by the two companies in Gujarat. SunEdison will provide monitoring technologies to Azure Power for projects of around 25 MW.

SunEdison is known for developing solar power projects in numerous countries. SunEdison was the company that initially introduced the Solar Power Purchasing Agreement. Currently, the company manages over 350 commercial and utility-scale solar photovoltaic energy plants worldwide. Currently, the company is executing a project in Italy that has over 70 MW capacity.

Power generation on the Gujarat plant will commence by January 2011 with complete completion likely by November 2011. In the first year of functioning, the plant will produce energy of around 24 million units, offsetting 16,800 tonnes of carbon dioxide annually.
