Iberdrola Renewables Supplies Wind Power to Tennessee Valley Authority

Power company Tennessee Valley Authority has commenced receiving power from the 300-MW Streator Cayuga Ridge wind farm of Iberdrola Renewables SA. Tennessee Valley Authority provides electricity to businesses and homes located in seven states in the Southeast of the U.S.

The contract with Iberdrola Renewables is one among seven other contracts recently inked for purchasing around 1,380 MW of wind power, sufficient to power around 325,000 homes, from Midwest producers.

Tennessee Valley Authority is scheduled to receive around 115 MW from the 300-MW Pioneer Prairie wind farms of Horizon Wind located in Iowa State in the autumn. The contracts resulted from the request of Tennessee Valley Authority in December 2008 to purchase around 2,000 MW of clean or renewable energy.

The 32,800 MW of production of Tennessee Valley Authority is powered by hydro (5,500 MW), natural gas (5,700 MW), nuclear (6,600 MW) and coal (around 15,000 MW).
