Independent Energy Solutions, Inc. (IES) has commenced designing and constructing a 1.15-MW rooftop solar photovoltaic system meant for the Irvine Campus of The Capital Group Companies.
This solar system is likely to be mounted on rooftops of three different parking garages and is likely to generate approximately 50% of the power utilized for powering the central plant equipment and campus data center. Construction work on the project had commenced in May 2010 and is expected to be completed by late summer.
The organization made this investment in solar energy in hopes of energy savings and the tax incentives that come along with it. This installation is likely to help The Capital Group Companies realize energy savings of over $14 million over the coming 25 years.
IES is likely to set up around 5,472 Kyocera polycrystalline solar panels with 210 W capacities each at the installation site. This system will generate 1.7 million kWh of solar energy annually. Utilizing solar energy rather than traditional energy decreases carbon dioxide emissions by around 30,725 tons within the coming 25 years, equivalent of not covering a distance of 3.8 million miles using a vehicle annually.
Renewable energy consulting company EcoMotion selected IES after conducting an in-depth selection process. The Capital Group Companies collaborated with EcoMotion for creating an ideal RFP, distribute the same to solar contractors, schedule examinations of the installation site and finally evaluate responses.
