Tucson Electric Power Signs Ten Solar Power Purchasing Agreements

Tucson Electric Power (TEP) has submitted ten Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) for approval by the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC). If these PPAs are approved, they will totally account for 160 MW of solar power capacity. All projects are in their initial stages and if executed according to plan, they will feed the grid from 2011.

Of the ten projects being planned, three will implement concentrated solar power (CSP) technology. Four projects will use single-tracking devices while the other three will use fixed PV panels. The Renewable Energy Standard (RES) of Arizona requires that by 2025, solar energy constitute 15% of consumers’ electricity demands. TEP’s new solar projects would help the company meet the goal.
