Victor Valley College and SolFocus Inaugurate Solar Power Plant with Concentrator Photovoltaic

Victor Valley College and SolFocus opened their solar power plant with concentrator photovoltaic (CPV) systems at a grand ceremony on 25 May. The largest of its kind in the continent, the six-acre solar plant took two months to construct and has the capacity to generate 1 MW of solar energy. The clean power generated from the solar plant is utilized by Victor Valley College in Victorville, California.

The solar micro-generating facility at the college, now connected to the Southern California Edison-operated electrical grid, is expected to roll out an annual production of 2.6 million kWh. The energy volume totals to about 30% of the electricity consumption at Victor Valley College. The solar power plant consists of 122 SolFocus SF-1100S CPV arrays and is located on the main campus of the college.

Victor Valley College will develop a curriculum to support the innovative solar technology. The new curriculum will form a part of the existing technical and academic programs and will include operations, installation, as well as maintenance. SolFocus will also its support through training, materials, and instruction.
