Dow Corning will invest around $13 million in a Solar Energy Exploration / Development Center (SEED) for expanding its capabilities in Europe for innovating with silicon-based technologies and materials.
The SEED comprises two novel buildings for complementing Dow Corning’s Business & Technology Center located in Seneffe, Belgium. The first building, a Synthesis Technology Center meant for the region of Europe will house chemists and laboratories that focus to innovate silicon-based materials. The second building, the European Solar Solutions Application Center is likely to concentrate on advancing the technology of Dow Corning for usage in photovoltaic cells. Construction work is likely to commence this year.
The Synthesis Technology Center, staffed by engineers and scientists, will be created to support exploration activities of novel materials and create novel innovative solutions in sectors including electronics, healthcare, automotive & tire, plastics & composites, construction, coating, and personal care & beauty.
Apart from Dow Corning’s three existing solar application centers located in Korea and the U.S., the European Solar Application Center will facilitate scientists and engineers to collaborate with customers to evaluate, test and develop silicon-based materials solutions utilized for making solar cells.
