AU Optronics to Unveil “Smart Module” at Intersolar

During June 9–11, 2010, at the 2010 Intersolar exhibition AU Optronics Corp. will demonstrate its innovative solar technologies. The products that AU Optronics will demonstrate at the exhibition will include EcoDuo PM220P00 multi-crystalline solar modules, debut of "Smart Module" and EcoDuo mono-crystalline solar modules that are highly efficient.

The “Smart Module” has the potential to increase the generation of power. A particular thin-film layer is coated on the “Smart Module’s” surface that reduces reflection so as to enhance ray transmission as well as energy production of PV modules. Moreover, this thin-film has the capability of dissolving foreign substances present on the PV module. PV systems that utilize “Smart Modules” during the initial stages of the operation can enhance the generation of power by around 3%.

Currently, AU Optronics partners with M. Setek for receiving solar wafers and polysilicon for producing high-efficiency solar cell wafers. M. Setek, with its sophisticated wire saw slicing technology, has the capability of producing bulk numbers of ultra-thin wafers in 140 um size.

A joint venture agreement has been established by AU Optronics with SunPower for investing in a solar cell production plant in Malaysia. By means of this collaboration in intellectual property and technology, AU Optronics intends to manufacture solar cells that have high conversion efficiency rates.

Moreover, the company takes part in large PV investments and projects, intending to carry out PV system projects located in Italy. Overall power generation is expected to reach 6.5 MWp. By June 2010, a project in Verona, Italy for generating 752 kWp will be completed.
