UC-San Diego and Sanyo Electric Sign Contract on Solar Energy Research

San Diego’s University of California and Sanyo Electric Group have entered into a research agreement on energy management and solar energy systems. As per the terms of the agreement, the University of California and Sanyo Electric Group will collaborate on multi-disciplinary, multi-year projects in renewable energy as well as energy storage development, research and education. Over a period of three years, Sanyo Electric Group will provide $3 million for funding these research projects.

These research projects focusing on solar power usage is essential for the future of states such as California that depend on renewable power for meeting its growing energy requirements. The research will develop on the Smart Energy System concept of Sanyo Electric Group that is developed to enhance the reliability and stability of renewable power and existing work on the university’s Jacobs School of Engineering in solar energy storage, general energy management and forecasting.

The goals of the research projects include creating advanced energy solutions, finding ways on reducing emissions while providing reliable, stable renewable power production and storage from large to small-scale systems.
