Kyocera Solar today revealed that it has started the production of solar modules in San Diego, California, to serve the U.S market. The company has solar module manufacturing facilities in Mexico, Japan, China and the Czech Republic. The module will help in attaining Kyocera’s global production target of 1,000 MW every year by March 2013.
The initial production target is about 30 MW every year, and Kyocera will initially produce solar modules starting from 210 W to its latest flagship 235 W.
The company has bolstered its solar energy business and is aggressively expanding its production unit in this market. It presently has its production units in Mexico, China, Japan and Czech Republic in addition to San Diego. The estimated 1,000 MW would supply 3.5-kW power to an estimated 285,000 homes every year.
Steve Hill, president of Kyocera Solar, claimed that the company specializes in installing solar-electric generating systems from unused spaces like parking lots. Tatsumi Maeda, vice president and GM of Kyocera Corporation, said that high quality modules manufactured by the company would help meet the demand for renewable energy.
