The PA Sunshine Rebate Program has greatly benefited many Pennsylvania homeowners. The program helps them to use solar energy and cut electricity costs. Roughly, around 10 MW of solar power has been installed by residents in Pennsylvania since the inception of the Rebate Program. Furthermore, 137 solar thermal projects and 790 solar electric projects have been completed, with another 895 projects under construction.
Awarding the 1,000th rebate check to a homeowner, John Hanger, Secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection, said that there has been a marked improvement in the state’s economy due to this program. The homeowner’s system would save nearly $800 each year and generate more than 5,500-kWh of electricity.
John Hanger also reiterated the fact that the rebate program has not only decreased the price of solar energy in the state but will also provide clean energy to homeowners and businesses for 25 years. He further stated that the program has rendered more than $72 million in rebates that will fund more than 2000 solar electric projects.
Philadelphia-based Mercury Solar Systems is one of the nearly 500 authorized solar power installers in the state. The company has set up more than 50 solar projects in the past year and will be installing more in the near future. The demand for the Sunshine rebate program has enabled Mercury Solar Systems to increase its employee capacity to 15 from 3 in the past year.
