JA Solar Teams Up With ECN for Photovoltaic Modules

JA Solar Holdings Co., Ltd., a company involved in the manufacturing of solar powered products of high performance, has announced that it has teamed up with ECN (Energy research Centre of the Netherlands) for introducing the MWT (metal wrap through) solar module and cell technology into production.

This partnership will ensure that JA Solar Holdings and ECN succeed in bringing about high-efficiency, cost-effective solar modules that will reduce electricity costs, produced through solar power.

The MWT technology decreases the loss caused due to shading at the front portion of the cell surface, thereby resulting in the solar cell having enhanced active front surface area. By using the Eurotron equipment, the modules are assembled in a completely automated process, This technology facilitates thin solar cells to be handled at high yield and throughput as well. Recently, ECN has manufactured MWT solar modules with a high world record efficiency of 17% in 2009 for its PV modules featuring multi-crystalline silicon cells.

ECN managing director Ton Hoff mentioned that the company’s mission incorporates the crucial element of bringing technology to application. The CTO and Senior VP of JA Solar Yong Liu said that the company is glad to work with ECN in developing the MWT solar cell technology. This technology can increase the conversion efficiency of photovoltaic modules, with the advantage of high power output. It facilitates the reduction of material expenses, thus lowering solar electricity costs.
