DuPont offers the DuPont Teflon film. The film is used in the making of solar panels for portable applications and grid-connected systems. The Teflon ETFE and FEP fluoropolymer films are strong and lucid thermoplastics and can be conveniently used as protective front covers for the solar modules.
The inherent features such as light weight, durability, flexibility, increased power output quality and easy to clean facility made the films more suitable for protecting the solar PV sheets. Teflon films are considered as viable alternative for traditional glass protection materials.
The DuPont Teflon film offers increased level of light transmittance to match the operating frequency range of solar cells for increased power output. The flexible film is less delicate than glass and continues to work without changes in the power output level for a longer duration. The light weight Teflon film when used over a 1600mm x 800mm module weighs less than 150 gm in comparison with a glass front sheet weighing more than 10 kg. The thin Teflon film offered by DuPont remains flexible without corner chipping and sharp edges and allows easier installation. The Teflon FEP film has inherent fire resisting nature and lower combustion features to stop spreading of fire and protects the solar panels.
The ETFE films are surface treated by utilizing a unique patented process for increased bonding to EVA. The increased dielectric strength of the films makes them efficient insulators. The Teflon film offers increased protection against moisture penetration for increased power generation. The FEP films are available in 2, 3 and 5 mm thickness and the ETFE materials are available in 2 mm 5 mm thickness.
