Six Teams Participating in the 2010 Solar Decathlon Europe Select SunPower Solar Panels

SunPower Corp. has announced that six among the 17 university teams taking part in Solar Decathlon Europe to be held in Madrid, Spain this month, will make use of the high performance solar panels of SunPower for the purpose of powering homes that have been designed and built by students for the ensuing competition. In today’s market, SunPower’s solar panels are supposed to be one of the most efficient products that are available.

SunPower, one of the leading multinational solar technology companies operating in Spain, is supporting teams from the Institute of Advance Architecture of Cataluna, CEU University Cardenal Herrera and the University of Sevilla as well as the University of Florida, University of Rosenheim and the University of Paris Arts et Metiers. Luis Torres, EMEA general director, said that the SunPower solar panels are approximately 50% more efficient than traditional panels and come up as one of the most reliable choices for certain constrained areas including residential rooftops.

The Solar Decathlon Europe is an event that has been modeled by following the Solar Decathlon held every two years by the U.S. Department of Energy located in Washington, DC. In this European event, all decathletes will compete against each other at the Solar Village situated close to the River Manzanares. Renowned architects as well as engineers comprise the panel of judges at the event.
