NRG Solar to Purchase Solar Development Projects of US Solar

NRG Solar, the fully owned subsidiary of NRG Energy Inc., has finalized a definitive contract with Arclight Capital Partners LLC affiliate US Solar for acquiring solar development projects present on nine sites in Arizona and California.

These development projects range between 20 MW and 99 MW, with the possibility to be functional between the years 2011 and 2013. This acquisition almost doubles the total under-development projects of NRG Solar to 1,150 MW.

The CEO and President of NRG Solar, David Crane mentioned that the project pipeline of US Solar provides the company with an added advantage in solar markets that are promising. He also added that the company is expecting consumers in America to increasingly demand energy that is generated from solar sources.

NRG Solar President, Tom Doyle, mentioned that acquiring these developmental projects will be essential in expanding the clean energy portfolio of the company and in establishing the company’s leadership in the solar generation industry.

Currently, NRG Solar is developing solar energy at locations with abundant solar resources. Such solar projects support the commitment of the company to enhance its broad portfolio of no and low carbon generation assets with different technologies such as novel offshore and onshore wind, biomass and nuclear generation projects. Moreover, the company operates a 21-MW, PV solar project in Blythe, California.
