Akenerji Commissions Hydroelectric Power Plant in Turkey

Akenerji, an energy producer, has commissioned its Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) named Akocak HPP, which was built at Arakli-Karadere basin in the province of Trabzon in Turkey. The company invested $124 million for constructing this plant.

Akocak HPP represents one of the biggest steps taken by the company towards switching to renewable energy. With an installed capacity of 81 MW, Akocak Hydroelectric Power Plant is likely to generate 257.44 GwH of electrical energy annually.

The General Manager of Akenerji Ahmet Umit Danisman commented that the company has invested on eight different hydroelectricity plant facilities with an overall capacity of 373 MW. Moreover, Akenerji intends to commission four more HPPs, which are Feke 2, Bulam, Burc and Uluabat power plants with an overall installed output of approximately 205 MW in various parts of Turkey in 2010. When put together, these power plants will prevent 646,000 tons of carbon dioxide, the equal to 31 million trees.
