TATA Power to Set UP 50 MW Solar PV Project in Gujarat

TATA Group has divulged its plan to commence a 50 MW solar photovoltaic power mission at Mithapur in Gujarat State, India, where the chemical plant of the same, and its Nano, a petite car, plant also functions. In accordance with the information accessed at its website, the intended project will be the largest solar photovoltaic facility in the country. Nonetheless this information is contradicted by the TATA power bureaucrats.

TATA group has of late concluded its ultra mega power project (UMPP) at Mundra in Gujarat State. The company is also scheduling to found a 5 MW geothermal project in Gujarat. For the intention of obtaining the obligatory savoir- faire in geothermal energy production, the company has recently realized a 10% stake in Geodynamics, an Australian company by investing $50 million.

The Government of Gujarat gives credence to solar energy power generation and last year it has permitted 34 national and international solar projects to have a slice of its planned 716 MW solar power generation. Majority of the companies who have contributed to the discussions, have revealed their plan to set up solar power projects.

William J Clinton Foundation, a US-based foundation has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the government of Gujarat through its Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI) program to set up five solar parks with a total power generation capacity of 3000 MW.
