Saint-Laurent Energies to Construct Wind Farm in Quebec

Saint-Laurent Energies is all set to construct a wind farm in Quebec. The Quebec Government has issued an Order in Council for the construction as well as operation of the company’s Lac-Alfred wind farm.

Around 70,000 Quebec homes will be powered by the energy that is generated from this wind farm. The Lac-Alfred wind farm will operate under a 300 MW nominal capacity while making use of 150 numbers of REpower wind turbines with 2 MW ratings each.

Realization of these wind farms will be contributing towards the growth as well as development of Quebec’s wind industry, in the administrative regions of MRC de Matane and Gaspesie. For the operation of wind farms, REpower has been chosen to offer turbine components. It is anticipated that blades will be manufactured by LM Wind Power in Gaspé. Also electrical converters are expected to be produced by SEG-Woodward in New Richmond. Subject to receiving authorization certificates, funding and approvals, the construction of Saint-Laurent Energies wind farms is expected to get over by 2012.
