ICOS Division of KLA-Tencor Ships 1,000th Automated In-Line Inspection Solution for Solar Cells

KLA-Tencor Corporation, a supplier of yield management and process control solutions targeted at the semiconductor and other related sectors, has completed the shipment of its 1,000th automated in-line inspection product for solar cells and wafers.

The demand for technology that helps reduce the per-watt cost of solar-produced electricity has driven the quick adoption of such products. Presently, these tools are installed at various solar cell manufacturers throughout the world.

The PV inspection portfolio of KLA-Tencor features the ICOS PVI-6 that is used for dual-sided, optical in-line inspection of PV cells and wafers. The PVI-6, from the ICOS Division of KLA-Tencor, is installed at various solar cell manufacturers throughout the globe.

Some of the technical benefits of the ICOS PVI-6 include: easier set-up and calibration, with calibration time reduced by around 80%; higher repeatability and accuracy of measurements; and central module management and tool matching.

KLA-Tencor will showcase its solar process control portfolio at the 2010 Intersolar North America Tradeshow at Moscone Center located in San Francisco, California during July 13-15.
