Solazyme Provides Solajet HRJ-5 Algae-Based Renewable Fuel to U.S. Navy

Solazyme Inc. has supplied jet fuel that is based on algae for the U.S. Navy. The company has been helping out the U.S. armed forces in terms of powering its trucks, tanks, ships and planes through renewable fuel.

Solazyme has so far provided 1,500 gallons of the Solajet HRJ-5 jet fuel that is 100% algae-based, for the certification and testing program of the U.S. Navy. This delivery fulfills the 2009-contract signed between the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) and Solazyme.

Solazyme is a world leader in providing renewable oil while being a green bioproducts firm and a pioneer in algal biotechnology. The Solajet HRJ-5 jet fuel is produced through the fermentation process of the company in collaboration with Honeywell UOP’s renewable jet fuel processing technology. The company’s algal fuel technology will help the U.S. DoD in reducing its carbon footprint, fighting climate change, minimizing the reliance upon foreign oil and pioneering the development of renewable as well as clean energy resources meant for national energy security.
