Narmada Hydroelectric Development Corporation (NHDC), a partnership venture between the National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) and the state government of Madhya Pradesh India, has announced its plans to launch a 100 MW wind power unit in Kukru village of Betul district in Madhya Pradesh.
Narmada Hydroelectric Development Corporation (NHDC) originally contrived to make use of the hydro power generation potential on the river Narmada, has currently broadened its scope of activity into thermal power and pocketed the construction of two power plants of 1360 MW capacity each.
According to various agencies and wind energy investors the total capacity utilization of wind power at Madhya Pradesh is believed to be in the range of 18 to 22 percent but Chairman of NHPC is positive about the project. He expressed the intention of the company to generate more power through the project and will be funded either through internal power sources or an external loan.
According to a top-level management official NHDC has appointed C-Wet as its consultant to conduct a survey and submit a detailed report. The company is planning to risk the project only if the report is favorable. Meanwhile NHDC is optimistic about the maximum utilization of the plant.
The wind power makers at the state are looking for a slash in the current slab of Rs.4.03 per unit during the first year and Rs.3.36 per unit in the 20th year. An investor who has plans to set up a 15 MW wind power generating unit at Madhya Pradesh expressed his expectations for a competitive power rate like that of Tamil Nadu.
