The State Building Commission has announced the choice of Chattanooga-based Signal Energy as a service provider to design and erect the West Tennessee Solar Farm to be positioned along the Interstate 40 in Haywood County.
Signal Energy was preferred in a competitive bidding process for setting up the West Tennessee Solar Farm. The company provides turnkey services, for renewal energy projects all over North America. As an auxiliary company of EMJ corporation Signal Energy represents one of the biggest general contractors.
The 5 MW plant constructed over a 30 acre land is a component in the Volunteer State Solar Initiative, which includes Tennessee Solar Institute at UT formed by Governor Phil Bredesen and accepts funding from American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The solar farm is expected to install over 20,000 high efficiency silicon photovoltaic modules totaling 5 MW power to produce 7000 MWh electric power every year.
The solar farm is expected to utilize the currently available commercial technology for power production and may also incorporate new technologies if required. The Tennessee Department of Transportation is preparing to construct a welcome center as well as an education center at the proposed solar farm to provide knowledge on renewable energy products to students of the locality.
Signal Energy is planning to commission the installation of solar modules from October 2010 and anticipates completing the project in the next spring.
