FARA Reports African Bioenergy Production Without Food Displacement

A recent report developed by FARA (Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa), CAMCO International and Imperial College London has observed that production of crops is possible for the purpose of bioenergy, on a large-scale in the southern, eastern and the western regions of Africa.

This is possible without causing much damage to the natural habitats or food production. This study was released in Burkina Faso at the 5th African Agriculture Science Week.

Bioenergy can significantly benefit the agricultural field in Africa with an approach that implements the proper processes and policies. It could also facilitate in tapping Africa’s latent potential while increasing food production positively. The report findings, titled Mapping Food and Bioenergy in Africa, have been arrived at after detailed reviews of the existing case studies and research towards biofuel production and its policies prevalent in six countries, namely, Mozambique, Zambia, Kenya, Tanzania, Mali and Senegal.
