Rhode Island Issues Federal Grant for Renewable Energy Projects

Rhode Island has issued federal grants to the extent of $4.7 million towards renewable energy projects in the state. The state has awarded this stimulus money to local governments, community groups and businesses towards 25 renewable energy projects in non-utility-scale. The projects include hydro, geothermal, wind and solar installations.

Funding includes $108,000 towards a wind turbine in Fishermen’s Memorial State Park and Campground situated in Narragansett along with $750,000 towards a geothermal system located at Newport Vineyards, a wind turbine located at Block Island and solar systems at the University of Rhode Island and Brown University. Overall, these projects have been anticipated to generate 108,831 hours of job in 16 communities.
