Consumers Energy, a company providing an assortment of utility services such as electric power and natural gas, in concurrence with Vestas-American Wind Technology, Inc. is proposing to procure 56 wind turbine generators for use in the premeditated Lake Winds Energy Park in Mason County to be commissioned by the year 2012.
As per agreement clauses Vestas on turnkey basis will install V100-1.8 MW turbine units which will generate 100.8 MW of green power. The company is scheduling to submit the contract for the sanction of Michigan Public Service Commission at the end of this year.
John Russell, who leads Consumer Energy as its President and CEO, expressed his happiness to reach an agreement with Vestas. He added by signing the contract they could achieve an important step in the development of their first wind energy park and in their pursuit to provide clean green environment.
Consumer Energy has conceived an all inclusive 20 year plan to fulfill the power requirements of around 1.8 million electric consumers with a balanced range of energy offerings which includes wind power generation.
While commenting on the use of natural energy, Russell said, currently four percent of their total power supply comes from renewable energy sources. He added the inclusion of Lake Winds Energy Park in their power sources at the end of the year 2012 will enable the company to increase the renewable energy power supply by 8%.
Consumers Energy has recently invited proposals for construction, procurement and technology related requirements for its proposed Lake Winds Energy Park and planning to issue contract for other constructions.
