Kendall Square Research, Inc. has announced the potential possessed by its novel energy efficient Green Cobra Street Light.

For the purpose of illumination, most of the roadways, alleyways and highways throughout the nation make use of inefficient metal halides or mercury vapor style lights. Replacing 5 million units of 100 W metal halide lights with the efficient 80 W street lights would result in a whopping reduction in electricity consumption to the extent of 963,600,000 kW, thus generating $77,088,000 worth of annual energy savings.
