Canada Plans to Invest $28.6 Million in Renewable Power Program

During the official dedication ceremony of Caribou Wind Park, Tilly O'Neill-Gordon, who represents Miramichi, as Member of Parliament announced that the government has considered investing $28.6 million over the next ten years by the ecoENERGY for Renewable Power program.

She added the support to the Caribou Wind Park is a standing example of the government’s commitment to provide clean renewable power to the citizens of Canada. She was optimistic about creating high quality jobs in New Brunswick through the renewable energy source technology.

The Caribou Wind Park currently managed by GDF SUEZ Energy North America incorporates 33 wind turbines with a capability of generating 99 MW of wind power energy. This archetypal power generation project of GDF SUEZ generates ample power to meet two percent of the total power generation capacity of the province.

This $1.5-billion budgeted program offers one cent as incentive per kilowatt hour production with an intention to boost the renewable electricity production of Canada to 4000 MW. The Economic Action Plan of Canada supplements this budget with an additional investment of $2.4 billion to sustain the growth and exploitation of cleaner energy savoir faire, and to shore up the existing Clean Energy Fund and the Green Infrastructure Fund.

Paul Cavicchi, GDF SUEZ Energy North Americas Executive Vice-President of Business Development, said through their third and continuous partnership with ecoENERGY it is amply made clear that the cooperation between the government and the industry is essential for achieving the desired results particularly in the renewable energy sector.
