Indian Railways Sanctions Two Wind Energy Plants in Rajasthan and Tamilnadu

Minister of State for Railways E Ahamed has indicated that the wind mill power plants are usually chosen according to the power density map that is issued by the ministry for renewable and new energy, after studying the technical feasibility of grid connection and also the availability of funds. This announcement was made to the Rajya Sabha.

Indian Railways has sanctioned two wind energy plants in the current financial year. The two plants will have a capacity of 10.5 MW each at an estimated cost of INR66.5 crores. One wind plant is coming up in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan meant for the North Western Railway while the other wind plant is coming up in Tamilnadu meant for the Southern Railway.

Both these plants are expected to become operational within two years from now. For the initial preparations, an amount of INR125,000 has been allocated. The wind plants are anticipated to generate wind power to the extent of 22 million units annually.
